Our mobile and non-mobile babies benefit from a large, bright, open plan day room, well equipped with a broad range of open-ended resources so babies can explore their senses and inspire development.
As babies spend a lot of time sleeping at this early age, we provide a dedicated sleep room. We constantly monitor the room temperature in the day nursery to ensure the babies are comfortable at all times. Practitioners can rock, cuddle and pat the children to sleep, following their home routine as required.
The babies have opportunities to explore the nursery garden throughout the day with a smaller dedicated baby garden to investigate when the main garden is busy.
There will never be more than three babies to any one member of staff, so you can be assured that your little one will get the essential attention they need at this stage in their life. Your child’s key person will take care of all your child’s personal needs whenever possible.
The Over 2’s space consists of three spacious rooms which the children have access to throughout the whole day. The children’s day is focused around their changing interests. Our nursery equipment has been carefully selected, allowing your child to discover at their individual level of understanding.
The room focuses on the seven areas of the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ framework and encourages learning through play. We have created various dedicated areas offering different activities.
The story corner where children can sit in a group and listen to stories or have individual stories with their key worker, sand and water play area, a construction area to develop coordination and a messy play area for getting creative.
Toddlers (2-3 years) also benefit from a staffing ratio of one member of staff looking after no more than four children and pre-school (3+ years) have one staff member to every 8 children. Free flow access to our concealed nursery garden is also a benefit so children can choose where they would like to do their learning.
As this is the time when the majority of children start toilet training, this area is equipped with brightly decorated children’s toilets, encouraging independence.
We support the pre-school children and prepare them for their eventual move from day nursery to school, we do this by joining the children in their play and extending their learning. With a focus on school readiness, children develop the skills to manage their own hygiene routines, build friendships and resolve conflicts. They become independent in self-care, listen in a group and share their ideas and experiences, ultimately creating children who are ready and eager to learn in this next stage in education.
The children learn responsibility by caring for our nursery pets, we have two guinea pigs and two giant African land snails which the children feed and water daily. The children ensure they are handled and cuddling the animals can also help to reduce stress and anxiety. Having nursery pets ensures all children can draw on the same real-life experiences.
All of our children get the opportunity to go on local educational trips, and whether it be to the local shops or places of interest, we always risk assess our outings and ensure that ratios are adhered to.
Pre-school children also attend forest school trips weekly; the children can explore their natural world, manage their own risks and reap the benefits of being outdoors such as improved mood and sleep.
We also invite the local businesses and the emergency services to come in and talk to the children about safety awareness and their community.
Parents have access to an app where they will be able to view all of their child’s daily photographs and learning and where things such as nappy changes, sleeps, meals and accidents are sent to them as a notification. The app also enables parents to book extra sessions and view their balance.
